Angle Oar (the company) was co-founded by retired mechanical engineer, Jim Van Gompel, creator of Angle Oar (the paddle), and his daughter, Meg McCall, a software marketing executive. Jim, who has more than a dozen other patents to his name, first conceived of the design 10 years ago when he became winded while kayaking due to his asthma and heart condition. Now 86, Jim continues to paddle to this day. In 2012, the two joined forces to patent the design and have spent the last few years prototyping, testing and manufacturing the paddle and mounting system. Angle Oar will be available to the public for the first time this fall (2016), and this Outdoor Retailer show represents the official unveiling of Angle Oar. The company will soon be offering two new very innovative kayak accessories that work in conjunction with the Angle Oar system. (less)
