The FBI's Hostage Rescue Team (HRT) was formed in 1983. The HRT has a long, distinguished history and has participated in many successful missions, yet sometimes at a high cost, and as a result, the Hostage Rescue Team Association (HRTA) was formed. The HRT has lost four of its members in the line of duty and many others have sustained serious injuries. The HRTA is a registered 501 (c) (3) not for profit organization whose mission is to assist HRT Operators and families and other emergency responders when faced with serious injuries/death, unforeseen situations, or financial setbacks.
